v1.3.0 Stable
released this
2026-10-27 09:32:25 -04:00 | 2 commits to main since this releaseDS2 Revival v1.3.0 for Dungeon Siege II (Steam v2.3) and Broken World.
Install or update: drag the contents of
DS2Revival.zipinto the folder withDungeonSiege2.exeand allow it to
replace files. No installer, no Python. Your settings are kept: they live inDS2Revival.ininext toDungeonSiege2.exe, which the plugins
create on the first start. The zip does not contain it, so an update never overwrites it. New settings are added to it with their
comments; the one exception is a setting that still has an old default, see "Anti-aliasing" below.
Don't own Broken World? Delete theBroken Worldfolder from the zip.
Broken World owners: put the expansion in theBroken Worldfolder as before; onlyDS2Revival.asiis needed in
Broken World\scripts.
Linux / Steam Deck: set the Steam launch optionWINEDLLOVERRIDES="version=n,b" %command%.v1.3.0 brings real anti-aliasing, the mouse pointer in the game's own fullscreen, and fixes for multiplayer and Broken World.
Picture and display
- Anti-aliasing: 4x multisampling plus SMAA is the new default (
[Graphics] AntiAliasing=msaa4+smaa). It gives clean
edges on geometry and, with SMAA on top, on the leaf cut-outs that multisampling alone leaves jagged, with text and
interface left sharp. You do not need dgVoodoo for anti-aliasing any more.msaa2,msaa4,msaa8,smaaandoff
can be chosen too. A sample count your graphics card does not have is lowered to the best it has, and if none works the plugin uses SMAA (the log says which).
We checked it on an NVIDIA RTX 4070 and an AMD RX 7900 XTX, with the native Direct3D 9 driver and with DXVK, through
device resets, alt-tab and photo mode. Not checked on Linux / Steam Deck yet: if the picture looks wrong there, set
AntiAliasing=smaa. Multisampling turns the experimental SSAO off. - Smoother hero menus. The 3D scenes of hero selection and hero creation get SMAA too (
MenuAntiAliasing=auto); their
text stays crisp. - One-time default switch. A
DS2Revival.inifrom v1.2.x that still has the old defaultAntiAliasing=smaabecomes
msaa4+smaaonce, at the first start of this version (the log says so). A value you set yourself is kept. If you prefer
smaa, set it again: it stays. The file's[Settings] Versionline at the end keeps count. - The mouse pointer in the game's own exclusive fullscreen (
[Display] ExclusiveCursor=1, forMode=offor
fullscreen=true). Windows 10 and 11 showed none there, though the game draws one. Dungeon Siege II and Broken World; borderless and
window mode are not touched. Checked on one PC (RTX 4070) at 800x600, 1280x720 and 1920x1080, in menus and the world,
with alt-tab. - Broken World's HUD hero portrait at every resolution. On screens wider than 1280 pixels it came out dark or garbled
(a speck at 1920x1080). Now it shows the face, in single player and multiplayer, at anyHudScale
([Graphics] PortraitFix, which already did this for Dungeon Siege II).
Multiplayer
- A message when the game versions differ (Dungeon Siege II; Broken World later). A joiner whose
DungeonSiege2.exe
differs from the host's in any byte (another build, a cracked or re-packed exe) used to sit in the staging area while the
host played alone. Now the joiner is told what differs (exe, game versions or game data), and OK takes them back to the
game list. The game list's "Content Mismatch" box no longer claims the game "has been modified" when the cause is the
host's mod or edited files.[Multiplayer] JoinVersionMessage=0restores the old behaviour. - Broken World: no more frozen joiner when the host presses START. A player who connected just as the host started
could end up with a "not responding" window and be dropped by the host after about 25 seconds. The cause was a lock cycle in
our DirectPlay replacement, fixed there (6 of 6 start-together runs pass; the same runs hung before).
Broken World
- The official editions' saves are recognised by name. Heroes made with Steam v2.3, the GOG exe, Broken World, or Broken
World with the 2018 repack's Widescreen Fix are accepted in single player, multiplayer and the online vault without editing a
setting, and the log names the edition ([BrokenWorld] AcceptKnownEditions=1). A hero from unknown game data is still
accepted in single player only.AcceptContentCrcsis now only for ids you add yourself, so its old default is emptied.
Joining a host still needs the same game exe and game data.
Website
- The roadmap has a new status, Can't reproduce, for player reports we tested in the game and could not make happen:
long sessions, the Kalrathian rebellion, the Azunite Archer, unconscious heroes and the Act 1 door. "Alive but dead" is confirmed
and has a planned fix (a level-up revive will cancel the defeat); it is not in this version.

v1.2.2 Stable
released this
2026-10-26 23:41:52 -04:00 | 3 commits to main since this releaseDS2 Revival v1.2.2 for Dungeon Siege II (Steam v2.3) and Broken World.
Install or update: drag the contents of
DS2Revival.zipinto the folder withDungeonSiege2.exeand allow it to
replace files. No installer, no Python. Your settings are kept: they live inDS2Revival.ininext toDungeonSiege2.exe, which the plugins
create on the first start (your values from the old per-plugin.inifiles are moved there once).
Don't own Broken World? Delete theBroken Worldfolder from the zip.
Broken World owners: put the expansion in theBroken Worldfolder as before; the old plugin copies in
Broken World\scriptsare retired, onlyDS2Revival.asiis needed there.
Linux / Steam Deck: set the Steam launch optionWINEDLLOVERRIDES="version=n,b" %command%.v1.2.2 is a small tidy-up release.
- The settings file
DS2Revival.ininow lives next toDungeonSiege2.exe(the game folder), not inscripts. If you already
have it inscriptsfrom v1.2.0 or v1.2.1, the plugins move it next to the exe on the first start; your values stay. Broken
World started from the Dungeon Siege 2 folder uses the same file; a Broken World folder on its own keeps its own. - The plugins' log files are in
scripts\logsnow, so thescriptsfolder holds only plugins (the old logs there are removed
on the first start). Send those logs when you report a problem. - Multiplayer: joining a game hosted with a different game exe or different game data no longer leaves you stuck in the
staging area. You get a message saying what differs and go back to the game list (Dungeon Siege II; Broken World later). - It includes the v1.2.1 fix: leftover
Broken World\scripts\*.inifiles that the game never used are ignored when your
old settings are moved intoDS2Revival.ini, so they cannot switch settings on unexpectedly (e.g.Mode=off,HudScale=1).
If you updated to v1.2.0 and something looks different (a small interface, no borderless window), check[Display]in
DS2Revival.ini(for exampleHudScale=auto,Mode=borderless).
Everything new in v1.2.0 (no DirectPlay install, DS2Graphics, a 720p-sized interface everywhere, photo mode, one settings file,

2026-10-26 23:14:16 -04:00 | 4 commits to main since this releaseDS2 Revival v1.2.1 for Dungeon Siege II (Steam v2.3) and Broken World.

.inifiles are
moved intoscripts\DS2Revival.inionce. v1.2.0 also took old leftovers fromBroken World\scripts\*.inithat the game never
used (Broken World always read the main folder's files), which could switch settings on unexpectedly, e.g.Mode=offor
HudScale=1. v1.2.1 ignores those leftovers. If you already updated to v1.2.0 and something looks different (a small

v1.2.0 Stable
released this
2026-10-26 21:46:35 -04:00 | 5 commits to main since this releaseDS2 Revival v1.2.0 for Dungeon Siege II (Steam v2.3) and Broken World.
Install or update: drag the contents of
DS2Revival.zipinto the folder withDungeonSiege2.exeand allow it to
replace files. No installer, no Python. Your settings are kept: they live inscripts\DS2Revival.ini, which the plugins
create on the first start (your values from the old per-plugin.inifiles are moved there once).
Don't own Broken World? Delete theBroken Worldfolder from the zip.
Broken World owners: put the expansion in theBroken Worldfolder as before; the old plugin copies in
Broken World\scriptsare retired, onlyDS2Revival.asiis needed there.
Linux / Steam Deck: set the Steam launch optionWINEDLLOVERRIDES="version=n,b" %command%.v1.2.0 is a big release. Everything below is new since v1.1.0.
Online and multiplayer
- No DirectPlay install. When Windows has no DirectPlay, the plugin brings its own. This also works on Linux and
Steam Deck (Proton). Players with and without Windows' DirectPlay can be in the same game. - News in the game. The game's own "new patch" banner on the main menu shows DS2 Revival news.
- Save history. The server keeps versions of your online parties for about a month. Restore an older one on your
account page at dsii.uk if a save goes wrong. - 23 achievements and leaderboards on the Armory, per edition, class and difficulty. Heroes whose files look
edited stay off the boards, and their page says why.
Picture and display
- DS2Graphics.asi is its own plugin: anti-aliasing (SMAA), sharpening, anisotropic filtering, the Shaders fix and
shadow size. It works in any display mode, not only borderless. - Interface sized like a 720p screen at every resolution: 1.5x at 1080p, 2x at 1440p, 3x at 4K. Any scale from 1
to 4 can be set, decimals too, with crisp text (HudFilter=sharp). Item labels, the Tab map and the loading screen
follow it. - Finer glow. The glow around crystals, lanterns and magic is drawn at twice the resolution, built from your own
game files in memory. Players with and without it can play together. - Sharper shadows as an option (
ShadowSize). - Photo mode (Insert): hides the interface, pauses single player, frees the camera. Return saves a picture,
Delete detaches a free camera you fly with WASD. - Sharpening is gentler by default (0.2).
- Intro movies no longer flash black.
- Black hero portraits in multiplayer above 1280 pixels wide are fixed.
- AMD cards: with the native Direct3D 9 driver the game silently switched the graphics options off after a few
frames. They stay on now.
Crashes and long sessions
- A crash in the game's vertex upload (it read past the end of its data) is fixed.
- Memory that every newly visited region kept for good is released, so long sessions no longer end in
"VirtualAlloc failed" (Dungeon Siege II; Broken World later, once it is tested there). - Broken World multiplayer: the host no longer runs out of memory on 1440p+ screens.
- Plugin logs can no longer grow without limit: every log stops at 4 MB, and the camera log is trimmed.
Saves and text
- Windows user names in Cyrillic or Chinese, or a blocked Documents folder: saves no longer seem to vanish or stop with
"critical path". A blocked folder is explained. - Cyrillic text works with Windows' "Use Unicode UTF-8" setting turned on (text, typing, saving).
- The Gas Powered Games sign-up form and the minimum-spec warning are skipped.
Broken World
- One plugin set and one settings file for both games.
- Old single-player saves load (
AcceptAnySaveSinglePlayer; heroes from the 2018 repack, checksum 75112728, are
accepted too). - The 2018 repack's
Widescreen Fix.ds2resis renamed away so players are not split from each other. - Item labels, the overlay map and the "loading multiplayer" screen are right.
- Broken World finds
binkw32.dllandmss32.dllin the main game's folder when its own copies are missing.
Easier to use
- One settings file,
scripts\DS2Revival.ini: every setting with its default, a short explanation, and a block
on common misconceptions (for example, deleting a line does not turn anything off). - Plugin switches under
[Plugins]:1= on,0= off,ds2= Dungeon Siege II only,bw= Broken World only. - Updating is drag and drop: your settings stay.
- Mods can say which game they are for (
modinfo.ini,Games=ds2|bw|both). - Linux and Steam Deck instructions are in the README and on dsii.uk.
Not in this release (still being built)
- Multisample anti-aliasing (MSAA) to replace dgVoodoo. SMAA is in.
- A mouse pointer in the game's own exclusive fullscreen mode. Borderless and window mode show it.
- A clear "different game version" message when a joiner's game file differs from the host's.
- Recognising the official editions' Broken World saves by name.
